Jocelyn Webb Pedersen is a Los Angeles based artist and fine press printer. She currently teaches courses in Typography/Letterpress Printing and Hand Printed Book Production. She holds a graduate degree in the Book Arts from the University of Iowa, Center for the Book and a Master of Fine Arts degree from UC Santa Barbara. She was awarded the first Victor Hammer Teaching Fellowship at Wells College and helped to set up the Book Arts Center there. She has taught Book Arts at the college level since 1996, but also enjoys leading bookmaking/literacy building workshops to young students. Her work is in the collections of the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, Yale, Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, UCLA and more.
Through the Lawrence Clark Powell '28 Endowment Fund for the Book Arts, she has worked closely with the Special Collections Department to create curriculum supporting the history of printing and the arts and technologies of the book. While her courses emphasize the book as a complex and contemporary form of visual and physical self expression, they are always steeped in historical context and include much hands on interaction with rare artifacts and archives housed within Special Collections. Her goal has been to build on Oxy's tremendously rich history in the literary arts, fine press printing and book publishing, as well as build new collaborative partners across the college's academic departments and administrative offices. She has produced work for the Alumni Department, The Board of Trustees, and the Institutional Advancement Department. She and her students have collaborated with Faculty members Martha Ronk (English), Danzy Senna (English), Desiree Zamarano (Education), John McCormick (Biology) and Linda Lyke (Art).
