Her paintings have been exhibited in Los Angeles and internationally for over 20 years, and featured in museums and public spaces such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, the Albright Knox Museum, SITE Santa Fe, the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
Concept and process are aligned as Stark investigates the physical properties of oil paint and extends the dialogue of this traditional medium. She drips, builds, and layers oil paint over an extended period of time, creating paintings with a high level of finish, which operate as objects with both fetish and aesthetic presence. In her paintings the temporal and material properties of oil paint are analogous to properties of the human body as flesh.
Stark is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowships, a California Arts Council Fellowship, and a COLA Visual Artist Fellowship.
