Prof. Ragins teaches courses in Judaism and Jewish history. In addition to a survey course on Judaism as a Religious Civilization which spans three millennia, he teaches The Holocaust: Historical and Religious Perspectives and Ancient Israel and the Hebrew Bible.  Beyond Oxy, he has also taught for a number of years at the Summer University the Institute for Church and Judaism in Berlin, Germany, at the Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, and at a Christian-Jewish Bible Week in Osnabrück, Germany. He is especially interested in the interplay between historical developments and religious traditions, particularly in modernity, and the way in which religion is shaped by and shapes societal change.
