Ambassador Christopher LaFleur
Christopher J. LaFleur was US Ambassador to Malaysia 2004-2007.
Amb. LaFleur, a New Yorker, graduated from Oberlin College and studied at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School before joining the United States Foreign Service in 1973. His early diplomatic postings included Sapporo, Tokyo, Paris and the US Mission to the United Nations in New York. He later served as Director of the Office of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia at the Department of State, as Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan, as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Immediately prior to his appointment to Malaysia, Amb. LaFleur was the Cyrus Vance Fellow in Diplomatic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He retired from the US Foreign Service in September, 2007.
He is married to Keiko Miyazawa; they have two daughters.
