Information Resources Staffing Updates 2014
The Center for Digital Learning + Research is delighted to welcome the arrival of Patty Ahn and David Kim as new Mellon Digital Scholarship Postdoctoral Fellows.
Patty is joining us from the Critical Studies Department at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where she recently completed a dissertation titled “Aftermarkets of Empire: South Korean Pop Music and the Global Logics of Race and Gender in the U.S. Media Industries.” This research examines how South Korean pop music has been culturally represented and industrially marketed within the U.S. audiovisual marketplace, and offers the first sustained study of the historical convergence between the South Korean and U.S. media industries. In addition to presenting and publishing in a number of scholarly contexts, Patty has also worked in the production and post-production media industries in Los Angeles. She hopes that her mix of practical and theoretical engagements with digital production technologies will be a lively addition to the CDL+R team. You can reach her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
David is joining us from the Department of Information Studies at UCLA, where he is completing a dissertation titled "Knowledge Modeling in the Archives: Epistemology of Race and Ethnicity in Digital History." This work engages questions of the archive in the context of critical race and queer studies, critiquing and reimagining the notions of evidence, authenticity and data in digital history projects. In addition to his written work, David has led and collaborated on a number of digital scholarly projects, partnering with faculty and archivists across Los Angeles. He has also played an important role in the establishment of the Digital Humanities undergraduate minor and graduate certificate programs at UCLA. You can reach him at email@example.com.
As Postdoctoral Fellows with the CDLR, Patty and David will partner with CDLR Faculty Fellows, will guide CDLR-sponsored Faculty Learning Communities and Digital Pedagogy workshops, and will lead our experiments with emerging digital scholarly tools and approaches. David and Patty are also available and eager to collaborate on teaching and research projects that take advantage of their expertise in digital scholarship and innovative work in the classroom.
