Employment

The information resources division hires students, staff, and occasionally interns to provide first-rate information services and resources to Occidental students, faculty, and staff. It’s a great place to use your talents and gain work experience.

Student employment

The information resources division hires many dozens of students every year, and is one of the largest employers on campus. Students perform  a wide variety of tasks that are vital to the success of  ITS, library, departmental operations, and scholarship technology. Students  support all activities from troubleshooting equipment and delivering technology to classrooms, from processing materials to staffing service points to office and administrative support. Whether working with the public or behind the scenes, IR provides students with a competitive wage; shifts for days, nights, or weekends; valuable work experience; and a great work environment. As do all campus offices, IR gives priority to hiring students with federal work study or Oxy work award.

For more information on application procedures and forms, please visit the student employment section of the human resources department website for the Occidental College student employment application and the library supplemental application.

Internships for MLIS students

Occidental College library and colleagues in ITS and scholarship technology periodically offer internships for MLIS students. Given the small size of the staff, we cannot offer internships consistently and are best positioned to offer them to students who can work independently under the direction of a staff member. We also work best with students interested in new models and technologies of librarianship since our library is administratively integrated with ITS and scholarship technology. If you would like to have an internship with us, please send a proposal and a resume to College Librarian Bob Kieft (kieft@oxy.edu).

Staff positions

IR posts staff positions on the College’s job opportunites website  and advertises widely on job sites and discussion lists. Please consult them for current opportunities.
