Finances
Oxy charges a single fee, regardless of where you choose to study, because we want to ensure equal access to the opportunities abroad and to all Oxy students.
The comprehensive fee includes the academic program abroad, room and board during the program, and local transportation between housing and class. Personal expenses and international airfare are not included. You must pay the cost of your airfare, but if you are on financial aid, you may be eligible for a travel grant. Students are responsible for travel costs for some programs (e.g., IHP) that greatly exceed typical semester abroad costs.
See the Financial Aid department's page on Study Abroad. Except for workstudy, 100 percent of your Oxy package is portable. Our partners offer additional scholarships. Your financial aid package stays the same when you study abroad. Any need-based or merit scholarships are applied. If you are on work-study, contact the Financial Aid office to find out how your package will be adjusted.
Many study abroad scholarships are available through our partners: CIEE, SIT, and IES. Additionally, there are several state department funded programs that will help support your study abroad experience: Gilman, Boren, DAAD, and Freeman-Asia. If you are on financial aid, please check with that office to see how your package may be affected by an outside scholarship.
IPO keeps evaluations from previous participants. Research those to prepare you for the differing costs between the U.S. and your destination country.
You are responsible for visa fees up to $100 USD. If your destination country charges more than that, submit your receipt to IPO for reimbursement.
