Bruno Louchouarn, MSc, MA, Ph.D.
A native of France who was raised both in France and Mexico, Bruno Louchouarn joined Occidental College’s faculty in 2001 in the Music Department and was appointed the Studio’s first director in July 2005. He studied artificial intelligence in Paris with research foci on natural language processing and translation. He later obtained a Ph.D. in music composition at UCLA. He has studied composition with Ian Krouse, Paul Chihara, and Jerry Goldsmith.
His musical work often focuses on the performative aspects of language and music, the narrative structure of myths, and rhetoric. Ranging from futuristic cantina music heard in the film Total Recall to live experimental multimedia performances, works for large orchestra and music for the theater, his music has been performed at RedCat in Los Angeles's Walt Disney Concert Hall, UCLA’s Royce Hall, the Getty Center, The Art Center, Juilliard, and the Getty Villa.
He teaches music, multimedia, and cognitive science.
