• Minimum requirements:

Completion of a minimum of 30 units (six courses) of graduate work at Occidental College; an approved plan of study with a grade of B (3.0) or higher in every course; satisfactory completion of a thesis; and passing final comprehensive examination in the field of emphasis. Most graduate courses are valued at 5 units each.

• Cost of Study:

The application fee is $60. For 2011-2012 tuition (per unit) and general fees per semester are as follows:

Grad Study, Other (M.A. in Biology) - $1,745.00 per semester unit

Student Body Fee - $139.00 per semester

Student Health Insurance (mandatory) - $356.65 per semester

• Application Procedures:

Applicants for the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Biology must file the following with the:

1. An application fee of $60. (This fee is waived for current and former Occidental College students)
2. A completed application form. Email Susan Molik to request an application.
3. Official transcripts of all academic work at the college and university level, including previous graduate work.
4. Letters of recommendation from three persons. These should include, if possible, one letter from a professor in the applicant's field of undergraduate study.
5. An official report of test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test (REQUIRED).
6. An official report of test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Subject Test in Biology (REQUIRED).
7. An official report of test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (REQUIRED of all students whose native language is
not English)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS must consult with the Graduate Office about specific requirements for international applicants.
