Learning Outside the Classroom
Under the direction of highly trained professional staff and student campus leaders, the residential program helps raise awareness and understanding of people from diverse backgrounds; provides and introduction to the social, cultural, and intellectual resources of Los Angeles; and familiarizes students with the Oxy community and services. Through the participation in interactive dialogue, workshops, excursions in Los Angeles, and other activities, students hone leadership skills, develop the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse community, and receive quality preparation for the overall Oxy experience.
Past MSI activities have included attending the critically acclaimed performance of Stomp, experiencing the annual Lotus Festival, visiting the Museum of Tolerance and the Southwest Museum, and participating in community service projects. These opportunities not only serve important educational and social roles in the program, but also provide forums for creating a sense of community and lasting friendships among MSI staff and participants.
