All Occidental graduates must complete a Core Program of required courses to ensure a broad education in the liberal arts and sciences.
In your first year you must register for two Cultural Studies Program (CSP) seminars, one in the fall and one in the spring. The CSP Seminars are also components of the College’s first-stage writing requirement, and as such they are a graduation requirement and cannot be dropped or deferred. View the Core Program requirements.
You must register for your fall CSP seminar between June 21 and July 1. The longer you wait, the lower the odds that you will get into your top choices. (CSP registration opens at 8am Pacific Time on June 21.) To register for your fall semester CSP, please follow the steps below.
1. Before June 21: Choose your preferred CSP seminars
Because CSP seminars have strictly limited enrollment to preserve the low student-faculty ratios necessary for writing instruction, you may not be assigned to your first choice. Thus, before registering you should prepare a list of 8 to 10 seminars, ranked in the order of your preference.
You should also decide before registering whether you’re interested in enrolling in either CSP 1, the California Environmental Semester (CES), or CSP 2, Revolutions: Africa and Beyond. If you enroll in CES, you automatically sign up for all four of your fall semester classes; if you enroll in Revolutions, you are signing up for two of those classes, and will register for your remaining two at the beginning of the fall semester.
2. Between June 21 and July 1: Register online for your CSP seminar
a) Go to myOxy and enter your username and password.
b) Go to the Academics tab.
c) Select the “Add or Drop Classes” from the Registration Tools channel.
d) Enter the following six-digit PIN when prompted (everyone will be using the same PIN): 201705.
e) Select “2013 Fall Semester” from the “select a term” menu and submit.
f) Near the bottom of the screen enter the four-digit course reference number (CRN) for the class in a box on the “Add Classes Worksheet” and skip to step h, OR at the bottom of your screen, select the “class search” option and follow step g below.
g) Go to “Subject,” select the “Cultural Studies Program,” then select “Course Search” (at the bottom of your screen).
h) Select a CSP seminar (your first choice on your ranked list) by clicking on the “View Sections” box next to your choice.
Check the box next to only one CSP seminar (your first choice on your ranked list) and click “Register.” If that seminar is already full, the system will tell you that it’s closed. If this happens, select your next top choice.
i.1) If you are registering for “CES”, you will choose one of these selections:
California Environment Semester (crn 1627) CSP1.1 (16 units), or
California Environment Semester (crn 1628) CSP1.2 (16 units).
You will also need to register for the other courses that make up the CES.

(Note that registration into CSP 2 will also automatically enroll you into a Friday 11:45 a.m. -3:55 p.m. period for films, field experiences, etc.)
Note: When you have successfully selected “Register” for your CSP seminar, you will see a screen that says “Current Schedule.” This will confirm the CSP that you selected. Please make sure that you have selected the right CSP seminar. Finally, do not attempt to register for other classes. Questions? Call the Advising Center at (323) 259 1341 or (323) 259 1342.
Wait Lists are NOT maintained for any CSP seminar except CES and Revolutions.
If you wish to be placed on a wait list for either CES or Revolutions, you may do so by emailing the Core Program at firstname.lastname@example.org. HOWEVER: Before you will be placed on either wait list you must be enrolled in another seminar.
Students who do not register for a CSP seminar by the deadline date of July 1 will be placed into one by the Core Director.
