Caltech-Occidental Symphony Orchestra to Perform Piano Epic
The Caltech-Occidental Symphony Orchestra continues its 2008-2009 season with concerts on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Occidental and Sunday, Nov. 16 at Caltech. The concerts will feature pieces by Mussorgsky, Chopin and Berlioz.
The orchestra will perform at Occidental’s Thorne Hall on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and at Caltech’s Ramo Auditorium on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The programs are identical. Both concerts are free with a public reception following each performance.
This will be the orchestra’s first Occidental concert of the 2008-2009 season.
Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky’s piano classic written in 1874, will be the featured piece. Also on the program is Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Andrea Anderson as pianist, and Roman Carnival Overture, written by Hector Berlioz.
The orchestra will be under the direction of Occidental Music Professor Allen Robert Gross, director/conductor of the Santa Monica Symphony.
