College Hires 16 New Faculty Members

May 3, 2005

After conducting a dozen national searches, Occidental faculty, in conjunction with College Dean Kenyon Chan, have hired 16 new faculty – 14 of them tenure track – for 2005-06.

Persons of color and women each account for 38 percent of the hires. Currently, the faculty is made up of 26 percent persons of color and 44 percent women.

"Our faculty searches this year were an unqualified success," Chan said. "Occidental's reputation for outstanding students and scholarship drew thousands of applications from across the country, and once again we were able to hire the top candidate for each position. We are excited to welcome them, and expect them to have an immediate impact -- not only because this is the largest class of new faculty in recent memory, but also because of the superb qualifications they bring to campus."
