Concert Band's Feb. 21 Performance Features Juggling
The Caltech-Occidental Concert Band’s annual Winter Concert on Saturday, Feb. 21 will feature the juggling talents of Stephen Bent ’09, currently on tour with the Flying Karamazov Brothers.
Bent will juggle his way through a musical medley, including “For Me and My Gal,” “Tiger Rag,” and “Pretty Baby,” during the free 7:30 p.m. concert in Occidental’s Thorne Hall.
Growing up in Bellevue, Wash., Bent always dreamed of performing with the Karamazov Brothers, the internationally renowned juggling troupe. Inspired by his juggling father, he began juggling at age 8 and honed his skills performing at birthday parties and PTA meetings. When he arrived for his first year at Occidental, he brought a duffel bag stuffed with 70 juggling props.
Also joining the Concert Band will French horn player Benjamin Faber, a physics major at Caltech. Benjamin will be a featured soloist during the evening program, which features selections by Frank Ticheli, Jonathan Newman, and Peter Tchaikovsky. The night’s festivities will conclude with a performance of Music for the Royal Fireworks Music by G. F. Handel.
