Cross Country Finishes 18th at Nationals
The culmination of the 2007 cross country season came today at the NCAA National Championships hosted by St. Olaf College.
The men’s squad improved one spot in the national standings, finishing 18th, after entering the meet ranked 19th among the nations best teams.
Kevin Chaves concluded his senior season by leading the Tigers pack with a seventh place finish. He completed the 8K in a time of 24:47, 23 seconds off the winner’s pace. He ran the first three splits in the third spot, but fell back to sixth at the fourth and final split of the day.
Fellow Tiger teammate Alex Ramon crossed the finish line in 24:59 for a 15th place finish. Both Chaves and Ramon earned All-America honors for his performance at Nationals.
Oxy’s next finisher was Keith Blumenfeld running the race in 25:52 for 109th place. Senior Galen Smith completed his collegiate career with a 194th place finish in a time of 26:19. David Martinez rounded out the Oxy scoring as he finished 260th with a time of 27:12.
Also running for the Tigers were freshman Richard Infantino (268th – 27:32) and senior Robby Nelson (280th – 28:44).
Racing for the women’s team was sophomore Maddie Weissman who completed the 6K in a time of 23:18.0. She placed 154th overall.
NCAA Nationals marks the end of the 2007 season. The Tigers will be back on the prowl in 2008.
