Employees Earn Recognition
Dozens of Oxy employees received service pins or prestigious Distinguished Service Awards at the 2007 Employee Recognition Ceremony held Tuesday, May 15 at Thorne Hall.
After the hour-long ceremony, employees were offered lunch as a thank you for their contributions. Following are the Distinguished Service Awards given to eight employees in three categories:
Distinguished Newcomer Award: Presented to staff members or administrators based on outstanding performance, effort and achievement. This year’s winners are:
Krystal Bruner, Business Office, 2 Years of Service: Honored for streamlining business practices of the College, including implementing electronic clearance, replacing paper forms with interactive online forms, and improving the student refund process.
Marsha Schnirring, Library, 1 Year of Service: Honored for contributing to the Library’s services by creating a one-unit bibliographic instruction course, implementint a “rovin’ reference” service, and performing four hours of “information mentor” duties each week in Braun Hall.
The Triple A (Administrative Achievement Award): Presented to an administrator or professional staff member selected on the basis of outstanding performance, effort and achievement. This year’s winners are:
April Mazzeo, Undergraduate Research Center, 15 Years of Service: Honored for taking the lead role in many Oxy programs, such as the Teachers + Occidental = Partners in Science (TOPS) program and for being a primary resource for faculty members in preparation of grant proposals.
Marla Peppers, Library, 8 Years of Service: Honored for being an outstanding librarian, scholar and teacher. She continually provides outstanding support to teachers and students in regard to their research needs.
Bruce Steele, Facilities, 21 Years of Service: Recognized for addressing safety concerns with prompt action, intelligence and knowledge.
Sarah A. Gilman Memorial Award: Created in memory of Sarah A. Gilman (1940-1986), who was employed by the College from 1974-1985. The award is given to full-time staff members on the basis of superlative effort and dedication, special contributions, and exceptional leadership. This year’s winners are:
Victor Chico, Postal Operations Center, 8 Years of Service: Honored for going above and beyond to provide service to students and staff and successfully managing 24 student workers.
Marivel Santos, Human Resources, 5 Years of Service: Honored for her excellent customer service skills.
Justo Rodriguez, Campus Dining, 19 Years of Service: Recognized for his dependability and innovation in revising menus.
