Fai Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

January 31, 2006

Occidental swimming sensation Dickson Fai ’08 was named Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week on Jan. 25 after breaking two pool records at Redlands five days earlier.

Fai, an All-American in the 100 and 200 backstroke in 2005, swam a 1:55.90 in the 200 backstroke – about 1 second shy of an NCAA “B”cut. He logged a 1:59.23 in the 200 IM, eclipsing the previous pool record by 0.02 seconds. Fai sat out last semester due to illness and both performances came after just eight days of training.

Fai, of Hong Kong, made the All-SCIAC team as a frosh. He is the Occidental record-holder in the 100 backstroke (50.49), the 200 backstroke (1:50.67), and the 200 IM (1:55.23). Fai also was a member of the record-setting 200 medley relay (1:37.22). As a frosh, he was SCIAC Male Athlete of the Year.
