Homecoming 2011 is Oct. 20-22

September 29, 2006

Occidental College invites alumni, families of current students and the campus community to participate in the 2011 homecoming and family weekend, scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Oct. 20-22 across campus.

On Friday, you are invited to be an Occidental student for a day, as most academic classes will be open for parents and alumni to attend. A class schedule will be available at the registration canopy in the Quad. The Homecoming Golf Classic is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena, and for those who want to stay on campus there will be admission tours and information sessions, a homecoming student car parade and pep rally, and a volleyball game with Whittier. The Glee Club will perform Oxy songs, Americana, a cappella, folk songs and sacred pieces at a 7:30 p.m. concert at Thorne Hall. Make sure to join for the 10 p.m. bonfire in the Norris Residence Hall parking lot.

The weekend will be highlighted by the 1 p.m. Saturday homecoming football game at Patterson Field, where the undefeated Tigers will take on traditional conference rival Pomona-Pitzer in a renewal of Southern California's oldest football rivalry. Earlier in the day, at 7:30 a.m., the Oxy Family Fun Run/Walk will allow the fitness-minded to take a two-mile excursion about campus. You can also take in the critically acclaimed Occidental Children's Theater, which at 10 a.m. will stage "Dracula and the Beanstalk" on the Thorne Hall lawn. Don't forget to work up your Oxy spirit by attending the tailgate barbecue before the game.

Sunday concludes with all-day library exhibits that highlight poet Robinson Jeffers (Class of 1905), rare books and special collections. Also, the men's alumni water polo game is scheduled for noon at Taylor Pool.
