Occidental Unaffected by Earthquake
July 29, 2008
Today’s magnitude 5.4 earthquake, centered in the Chino Hills area – about 25 miles east of Eagle Rock – caused no damage to the Occidental College campus
Normal college operations were unaffected by the 11:42 a.m. temblor, which was felt widely throughout Southern California.
Immediately after the earthquake hit, Campus Safety and Facilities personnel fanned out across campus to conduct a building-by-building inspection. No damage was found, and no injuries reported. By early afternoon there had been about a dozen aftershocks, but only one -- a magnitude 3.8 – was large enough to be felt in areas closer to the epicenter.
