Swimming & Diving Qualifies for Nationals

March 3, 2007

Dickson Fai ’08, Jon Dohring ’08, and Robert Dohring ’08 will compete in the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships March 15-17 at the University of Houston Campus Recreation Center.

Fai, a two-time All-American, will race the 100 backstroke, the 200 backstroke, and the 200IM.  Jon and Robert Dohring ’08 will compete in both the 1m and 3m diving competitions.  Robert Dohring placed fourth in the 1m and third on the 3m last year at Nationals.

Fai swam a 52.16 in the 100 backstroke at the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Cerritos, Calif.  Feb. 15, the 16th fastest time in NCAA Division III.  His 200 backstroke time of 1:53.69 ranks 19th in the nation. Fai finished sixth in the 100 backstroke at Nationals last year (50.96) and holds the school records in both events (50.49, 1:50.67).

The rivalry between twins Jon & Robert Dohring, who traded first and second place at SCIAC dual meets throughout the season, provides an interesting sub-plot at Nationals.

Jon bested Robert, the 2006 conference champion, by half a point on the one-meter board at the SCIAC Championships and won the three-meter competition by 1 ½ points over Mark Emanuel of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

A total of seven student-athletes will represent the SCIAC at Nationals, three from Occidental.
