Ethical Conduct
Researchers must abide by ethical principles and official governmental / legal regulations. To ensure adherence to these standards, an Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews research projects at Occidental by students and faculty.
In psychology, researchers typically rely on guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association: Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2003)
Most student researchers will have taken PSYC 200 and learned about ethical conduct. They should also refer to APA's ethical principles and Occidental's IRB website before conducting research. Oxy's IRB website also contains required forms and applications.
