My word to describe Oxy: Opportunity

Hometown: Trenton, NJ
Major: Politics
Minor: Economics

"During the summer after my sophomore year, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the  Affordable Housing Fellowship from Urban and Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI). I worked with an amazing organization named LA Voice PICO on affordable housing issues in the city of Los Angeles. My main responsibilities were researching effective and progressive policies that cities were implementing across the nation that incentivized affordable housing. Around the country many cities are thinking of creative ways to build affordable housing and Los Angeles is quickly falling behind. My work with LA Voice was difficult at times, but it was always meaningful and allowed me to give back to a community that gives so much to Oxy and our students."

"[I also participate in] one of the greatest new traditions at Oxy, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The day of service brings together hundreds of Oxy students, faculty, and administrators together for a great cause. Individuals volunteer at community organizations in Eagle Rock and across Los Angeles. The opportunity reminds us that Oxy is connected to a larger community and that we have a responsibility to be active and positive community members. The event is a very fitting way to honor the life and legacy of a true American hero."
