My word to describe Oxy: Defining

Hometown: Hillsboro, OR
Major: Kinesiology

"My experience with research at Oxy has been amazing. I participated in directed research during the school year with Professor Raney's research group in the kinesiology department. We worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to improve the Power Up in 10 strength training program, a series of ten daily exercises that do not require any traditional strength training equipment. The program is aimed toward low-income Los Angeles families who might not have access to such equipment. This past semester, we worked on developing instructional videos for the ten exercises, along with a health and wellness website for the Los Angeles County area. Oxy also has a fantastic undergraduate summer research program that supports a variety of projects! This summer I worked on an individual research study comparing indoor and outdoor strength training equipment to determine the potential impact of the outdoor machines on physical activity behavior and muscular fitness."

"My favorite Oxy event is Springfest, a weeklong event with food trucks and games that culminates in an awesome concert. During my freshman year, the headliner was Nas, and this year's main attraction was Snoop Dogg! The concert was held outdoors at Oxy's Greek Bowl, and it was the best study break ever since it was held a couple of weeks before finals."
