About the Dean

Eric Frank (Ph.D. New York University, Institute of Fine Arts) was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Jan. 1, 2008. A Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, his area of academic expertise is Italian Renaissance art. For several years he was the chair of the National Test Development Committee for the AP Art History Examination. Dean Frank has served in a variety of academic and administrative positions at Occidental, most recently as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College (interim). He has been the chair or the Department of Art History and Visual Arts, served on many committees including Buildings and Grounds, Admissions, and International Programs, and has served on elected bodies including the Faculty Council and the Advisory Council. As Art History chair, he was instrumental in the proposal for and implementation of a $150,000 grant from the J. Paul Getty Museum for the creation of the Robert Winter Southern California Image Collection and the digitizing of Occidental slide library. Dean Frank was director of the Multicultural Summer Institute in 2004.

As Associate Dean of the College for Arts and Humanities, Dean Frank oversaw 11 academic departments, several administrative departments and academic enhancement funds including International Programs and the Remsen Bird Fund. As Associate Dean he was also responsible for the proposal for and implementation of a $500,000 grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation that resulted in Occidental's new and innovative Keck Language Studio.
