Cleveland Gillis '72 Memorial Scholarship
In 2004, the Black Student Alliance created a scholarship fund to support Oxy’s role as one of the country's most diverse liberal arts colleges. Formerly the African American Endowed Scholarship, the Cleveland Gillis Memorial Scholarship is named for an alum who was just as dynamic an alum as he was a student. As a student, Cleve Gillis '72 was a leader of the Black Student Alliance, contributed his time to Project Amigos, and found time to be a star track athlete. As an alum, he chaired numerous class reunions, was a leader in the Black Alumni Organization, and planned the alumni-student picnic. He provided leadership on the alumni Board of Governors, and was a very active member of the Occidental Business Associates.
Even though Oxy offers some of the most competitive financial aid packages in the nation, with tuition, room and board, and other charges exceeding $40,000 a year many families are still in need of additional resources. In recognition of Cleve's leadership and service, we invite you to contribute to help make it possible for future generations of students dedicated to school and community involvement to attend Oxy with a lessened financial burden.
