What is Banner7?

Banner7 is the latest release of SunGard Higher Education's "BANNER" system.  Occidental College has been using Banner for most administrative processing since 1994. Version 7 allows users to access Banner through a web browser. Oxy is deploying Banner7 via a "thin-client" called 2x Application Connector for best support and performance. A thin-client can be defined as, "A client that has little or no installed software but has access to software that is managed and delivered by network servers that are attached to it. A thin client is an alternative to a full-function client such as a PC."[ Top ]

How do I access Banner?

Close all running software. Go to the Start button, then Run and type "gobanner". This will run in the background, so please leave any command window (black box) you see running (and when prompted, click any key to proceed). The "2x Application Connector" box should then appear. Enter your user name and Oxynet (Windows) password. Make sure "Save Password" is checked and click Connect (should be a one time deal). You will then be prompted to log in. Enter your Banner account and password, but leave the "Database" box blank for the production database (PROD).[ Top ]

Can I access Banner from home?

What is the big empty browser window that stays there when I'm logged on or after I log out of Banner?

Please do not close this window while running INB or your Banner session will end! Two processes are running in the same window. The first is a Java application that usually just displays a big gray box. After you log into Banner, the form application is what you see in the browser. After exiting normally from INB, your browser window will stay open with a large empty space (the Java application). Once finished using Banner, you can close the empty browser box by clicking on the X in the upper-right corner.[ Top ]

Where are the options in Banner7 that used to be on the left side of the screen in Banner6?

One of the first things you’ll notice in Banner7 is that the options along the left side are missing. If you click on Options at the top, they will be listed in the drop down menu and you can choose from there. You can still use keystrokes (using the Alt key) if you are familiar with those shortcuts.[ Top ]
