Chinese Studies is part of the East Asian Languages and Cultures program.
The Chinese Studies major is intended for students primarily interested in Chinese language and literature. This major aims to help students attain a high degree of fluency, and much of the coursework is done in Chinese or Japanese.
Occidental offers courses in elementary, intermediate, and advanced Chinese (Mandarin), Chinese calligraphy, and traditional and modern Chinese literature in translation. Two of the four required courses can be taken at an Occidental-in-China campus. Students may also combine Chinese with another language (French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish) into a Group Language major.
