Capacity and Preparatory Review

The Capacity and Preparatory Review (CPR) is the second phase of WASC's three-phase process for reaccreditation. The CPR Steering Committee provides leadership for all institutional assessment activities relating to institutional capacity. The Steering Committee began meeting in December 2007.

During CPR phase, the college will consider its capacity within the context of WASC's four Standards to fulfill its mission and aspirations. The primary focus of the CPR is to address Occidental's governance structures, processes and resources to assure optimal organizational capacity in support of all areas of the College's academic programs and operations as well as its mission. The College intends to accomplish this through the work of several committees and task forces appointed by the Steering Committee.

Standard Working Groups

Four Standard Working Groups have been appointed, one for each of the four WASC Standards. Each was charged with addressing important issues and recommendations arising from the prior WASC review, linking them to the Criteria for Review (CFRs);

  • Systematically reviewing and assessing the College's compliance with each Criteria for Review under the Standard, identifying areas of institutional strength and compliance with CFRs as well as areas in need of institutional improvement. A Standard Working Group for each of the four WASC Standards is being created to undertake this task.
  • Identifying needed areas of improvement, and developing appropriate plans of action to strengthen institutional capacity.
  • Inventorying all relevant policies and data related to and in support of the four WASC Standards
  • Reporting and discussing findings and recommendations arising from the self-review with key campus constituencies, including faculty governance committees, the faculty of the whole, students, administrative staff and trustees.

Policies, Procedures and Processes Task Force

A task force was also established to oversee a review and analysis of core policies, processes and procedures for all areas of the college.  The PPP Task Force was also asked to prepare a comprehensive inventory of needed areas of improvement, development of new policies, procedures, etc., and to present a report and recommendations as they relate to institutional capacity under the Standards to the WASC Steering Committee.
