OxyConnects...with Community

One of the cornerstones of Oxy's Mission is community involvement.  The goal of OxyConnects is to introduce students to the needs of our surrounding communities and give them a chance to respond in a proactive way throughcommunity service trips.

Habitat for Humanity ($350) :: Trip Overview

Trip Details: Students participating in the Habitat for Humanity trip will make their way to San Diego for a three-day stay to help Habitat for Humanity.  Participants may be working in the Habitat ReStore or help at a build site depending on availability.  Participants will stay in a nearby facility that is walking distance to the beach.

Dress: Long pants recommended and closed-toe shoes required.  Please pack sunscreen as you may spend a portion of the day outside.

Other Activities: When the work day ends, all participants will head back to accommodations and be given the opportunity to shower and change.  All participants will then have dinner and reflection time.

 

Food Justice ($350) :: Trip Overview

 

Trip Details: Students participating in the Food Justice trip will visit to gardens to help out and learn about the food access/food environment/food culture issues in the Los Angeles area.  Participants will spend time in Occidental's own Victory Garden at the Green/Sustainable House helping prepare for the coming year.

Dress: Long pants recommended, closed-toe shoes required.  Please pack sunscreen as you will spend a portion of the day outside.

Other Activities: When the work day ends, nighttime activities will be planned by OxyEngage trip leaders to show participants some fun locations close to campus.
