This is the perfect opportunity for students unfamiliar with Los Angeles to encounter the diversity of arts and cultures in our immediate Eagle Rock community and in the greater Los Angeles area. OxyEncounters trips feature tours of arts and cultural centers around Los Angeles.
Trip Overviews
Icons of Los Angeles ($375) :: Itinerary
Explore the mainstays of Los Angeles. Over the course of three days, participants will traverse the cultural landscape of Los Angeles exploring museums, studios, music venues, theaters, restaurants and alternative spaces. From MOCA on Bunker Hill to the cliffs-top views of the Getty, from the spanning garden of The Huntington to the artist studios of Highland Park, and from the glossy bakeries on La Brea to the Skirball Cultural Center. This trip is a crash course to those new to the Southland. This trip was has been modified from last years Arts & Culture trip.
Los Angeles Fashion Experience ($375) :: Itinerary
Los Angeles is known as a global center of fashion. This trip gives students who are interested in this field the opportunity to tour the city and see first-hand how the industries impact Los Angeles. The tour schedule is packed with visits to design rooms, costumes from film and television, show rooms, fashion exhibits throughout Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fashion Experience is your chance to see two industries that have helped define the city.
Hip Hop Dance in Los Angeles ($375) :: Itinerary
Los Angeles is home to a vibrant and diverse dance community. Industry professionals along with some of the most talented performance groups in the nation have put Los Angeles on the map as an important city in the dance world. The OxyEngage: Hip Hop Dance in Los Angeles experience is designed for students of any dance level to learn about different styles and genres of hip hop in the city.
You will travel in and around Los Angeles to major dance studios to take classes from some of the city's most exciting instructors. Additionally, you will be introduced to Oxy's very own dance community. Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate!

Underground focuses on those areas of Los Angeles often overlooked and hidden away from the masses. We've asked our students what they wish they had known about as first year students, this trip is the answer. Take in the sights of the LA river on a unique graffiti tour, check out the museum of Jurassic Technology, visit former gang members turned entrepreneurs at Home Girl Cafe, stroll the boardwalk of Venice Beach, and see a concert in MacArthur Park. Los Angeles underground is a departure from your typical sight seeing tour. This is a new trip offering for 2010.
Hollywood ($375) :: Itinerary
Los Angeles has a rich history in the film and television industry. Join fellow first year students on studio tours, see the behind the scenes of your favorite shows, and be part of a studio audience!(Pending availability) As part of OxyEngage Hollywood you will stroll down the walk of fame, tour of the Kodak Theater, and take in a movie at Mann's Chinese Theater. Students will visit Hollywood museums and see the famous wax figures at Madame Tussaud's Hollywood. This trip is a must for anyone interested in show business. This is a new trip offering for 2010.
