Registration for Spring 2010 Classes

Spring registration has been scheduled for the week of Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov 13 for Spring 2010 classes. All Frosh sophomores, juniors, and seniors are expected to sign up for Spring 2010 classes during this week. To prepare for this, I have notified all academic advisors and the Advising Center to prepare to see advisees during the week of Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov.6 to plan each of your schedules. Most advisors will have additional office hours for this purpose and many will post sign-up sheets in advance. It is important to sign up early in the week because advisor hours towards the end of the week are necessarily limited. If your advisor is not here this semester, you should meet with the Chair of the department. Tha Advising Center will take appointments starting Oct 26th for Frosh and Sophomore students.

Each of you should think carefully about your desired academic program for the Spring 2010 before you meet with an advisor. To assist you, there are various tools located on the Academics tab in myOxy. In the Academics tab under the Registration, Forms & Planning channel you will find links to a worksheet which you can use to sketch a tentative schedule of classes to bring to your meeting with an advisor, the Spring 2010 course schedule, new and revised courses not listed in the 2009-10 catalog, and your grades and academic record. The Academics tab is also where you will find a link to Reggie in the Gateway channel.  Note that any bookmarks you have for Reggie will still work and you can also find Reggie from the Gateway menu via the external Oxy website. However, when pre-registration takes place in the spring the only available access to Reggie will be through myOxy.

Your registration envelope will be sent to your advisor (the registration envelope will also be sent to the Advising Center for students who have not declared a major yet)  from whom you will obtain it. Among other information the packet will contain your PIN (personal identification number) which you will need to log on to Reggie for registration, and your registration time.

Instructor Overrides: Remember that instructors are able, should they desire, to waive prerequisites for their courses or to override enrollment limits. If you are blocked from registration for a class because of prerequisite or enrollment limitations, see the instructor for that class to request an override. If the instructor agrees, he or she may enroll you in the class by calling your registration screen up on their computer. Instructors will need your PIN to achieve this.

Wait List Procedure: After registration week, there will be a two- to three-week period during which students and instructors will do whatever possible to get students off wait lists and into classes. After this period the wait lists established during registration will be eliminated.

Advising and registration will continue in more or less the same fashion as before. Students will access Reggie from any computer with online capacity. Students will be allowed on Reggie in groups, the number of which we have designed to manage website load efficiently. Students will obtain their registration PIN and registration time from their advisors during advising week. All students will be assigned in reverse order from the fall semester registration within their class standing. Once a student has been admitted to the website, he/she may return as often as he/she wishes up until the spring semester add deadline (the exact date is in the Academic Calendar ).

Here is the registration schedule:

  1. Sophomores will go first on Monday, Nov 9 through the morning of Nov 10.
  2. Seniors are next starting Tuesday morning, Nov 10 through mid-morning on Wednesday, Nov 11.
  3. Juniors will then register from Wednesday, Nov 11 mid-morning through Thursday morning, Nov 12.
  4. Frosh will then register from Thursday, Nov 12 through Friday, Nov 13

Students who experience difficulties obtaining an acceptable class schedule have these options:

  1. They may return to their advisors who can call the student's registration screen up on their own computers and assist students with their schedules, or
  2. They may go to the Advising Center, located in Johnson 105 for additional help.
  3. Students may also contact theDirector of Academic Advising, Vic Egitto at ext. 2727, via email at egitto@oxy.edu, or by visiting the Registrar’s Office.

If you have questions about these procedures please contact your advisor or the Registrar’s Office at ext. 2686.

Good luck in planning next year's classes.
