Development Committee Volunteer

  Objectives of Position:

  • Act as an ambassador to strengthen ties between parents, families and the College.
  • Assist the associate director of annual giving with solicitations of parents, helping to ensure that the Parents Fund reaches its goal.

  Terms of the Position:

  • One-year renewable.

  Responsibilities:

  • Make a gift or pledge to the Parents Fund prior to soliciting others at a level commensurate with ability, preferably at the President's Circle or the William Stewart Young Society level. Your gift will serve as an example for other parents to follow.
  • Aid the College in creating solicitation messages for parents.
  • Solicit leadership gifts from an assigned prospect group (between 10-15 individuals).
  • Participate in pledge reminder efforts.
  • If able, attend and encourage other parents to attend College-sponsored events such as Homecoming/Family Weekend and the Road Scholar series.

  Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 20 hours, spread out over a one-year term. 
  

Admission Volunteer

  Objectives of Position:

  • Provide interested and enthusiastic parents with meaningful opportunities to assist the Offices of Admission, Alumni Relations, and Annual Giving with recruitment efforts and admission-related activities;
  • Allow Oxy parents the opportunity to connect with the College and to represent Oxy in discussions with prospective students and parents.

  Terms of the Position:

  • One-year renewable.

  Responsibilities:

  • Join potential students and their families at campus during the Open House events each fall and spring;
  • Attend or host a reception in one of the various cities across the country;
  • Send welcome letters, e-mails or make welcome phone calls to parents of admitted students;
  • Participate in the Ask a Parent website; and
  • Attend college fairs with Oxy staff and alumni in various regions across the country.

  Time Commitment:

  • 5 hours per year. 

  Skills Sought:

  • Interest in being available as a resource to prospective Oxy parents;
  • Availability to attend or host a reception for admitted students and their families; and
  • Time to come to campus and participate with Open Houses.

Program Committee Volunteer

  Terms of the Position:

  • One-year renewable.

  Responsibilities:

  • Make a gift or pledge to the Parents Fund at a level commensurate with ability, preferably at the President's Circle or the William Stewart Young Society level. Your gift will serve as an example for parent volunteers to follow.
  • Work with the associate director of annual giving to coordinate New Parents Orientation, Homecoming/Family Weekend, parent participation in the Road Scholar series, and other parent events.
  • Attend and encourage other parents to attend College-sponsored events.

  Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 20 hours, spread out over a one-year term.


  Career Development Center Volunteer

Objectives:

  • Help provide professional opportunities for current Occidental students.
  • Assist the Career Development Center with sudent and professional partnerships.

Terms:

  • One year renewable.

Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer to participate on an Industry panel.
  • Dedicate a day for Walk in My Shoes, a job shadowing externship program.
  • Conduct a workshop on a topic relevant to students' college or transition experience.
  • Let us know if you or colleagues in your company can sponsor internships.
  • Post a job on TIGERlink, our comprehensive online resource.

Time Commitment:

  • Varies.


 Occidental College Women's Club

Ojectives:

  • To  raise money for the OCWC Endowed Scholarship.
  • Strengthen the community of women at the College.

Terms:

  • One-year renewable.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in several social and fundraising events throughout the year, including campus and museum visits, and receptions with faculty speakers.
  • Creating a quilt to be raffled off at the annual spring banquet.

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 25-30 hours spread out over a one-year term.


Tiger Club

Objectives:

  • To work closely with the director of athletics to help meet the needs of current college
    sports programs and athletes.

Terms:

  • One-year renewable.

Responsibilities:

  • Networking and outreach efforts between parents of student athletes and students.
  • Event planning.
  • Hosting a team barbeque.

Time Commitment:

  • Varies
