Responsibilities

Program Assistant positions are a one-year commitment of 12 hours per week and include, but are not limited to the following duties:

• Developing and implementing effective campus wide co-curricular programs that address sexuality, gender, feminism, masculinity, sexual assault, body image and health.
• Providing support and resources for the student clubs and social justice organizations
• Co-sponsoring and/or supporting programs that pertain to our mission (i.e. Women's Herstory Month, Vagina Monologues, Feminist Faculty Series, Love Your Body Day, Take Back the Night, Gaypril and Coming Out Week.)
• Assisting with program proposals and publicity
• Assisting with the development and implementation of an Ally Program.
• Working closely and cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and organizations to implement the CGE's mission
• Serving the Occidental community as a proactive, ethical and responsible campus leader
• Serving as a representative and informational resource for students
• Serving as a facility manager by maintaining appearance, organization and general up keep of the CGE.
• Assisting in office duties related to the daily operation of the CGE.
• Other duties as directed by the Associate Director of Intercultural Affairs.

Qualifications 

Applicants should effectively provide evidence of the following qualities:
• Interest in issues of diversity, multiculturalism, social justice and equality
• Leadership and public speaking skills
• Effective in communicating and working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
• Programming skills including organization, initiative, efficiency, responsible follow through, creativity, and a working understanding of the campus environment.
• Good academic standing. 2.5 GPA Required, 3.0 GPA Preferred


Compensation

CGE Program Assistants will be compensated in the following ways:
• An hourly wage at the rate of $9.00 per hour (must have a Work Study Award)
• Skills development including participation in workshops and/or conferences
• Leadership and diversity training through educational events and workshops
• Campus wide programming training
• Work experience, intercultural communication and skills training
