Themed Living Communities at Occidental College is intended to create strong links between students living on campus and their learning experience. A Themed Living Community is a group of students living together in college owned housing who share a common interest, vision, or goal. Each Themed Living Community will have the support of a faculty/staff advisor and the Residential Education staff. Students living in Themed Living Community will enrich the opportunities available to the students, faculty, and staff of Occidental College by providing educational programming around this shared interest.

To provide greater opportunity for students to develop leadership, programming, and organizational skills
To establish a more direct link between educational/academic pursuits and the residential experience
To provide the means for resident students to exercise greater degrees of control and responsibility in the creation of their own unique living experiences
To enhance the potential for community building among the resident population
To increase the number/amount of activities on campus, created by students and for their benefit
