TOUR GUIDE DESCRIPTION

The Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) is looking for highly motivated Oxy students to serve as Tour Guides. The NPP Tour Guide program is designed to expose students in grades 1-8 to a college campus. The mission of Occidental’s Neighborhood Partnership Program is to enrich the Occidental students’ college experience through partnerships with schools and community agencies in the Los Angeles area. These partnerships will emphasize the value of a post-secondary education by promoting community engagement, civic responsibility, self-empowerment, education, and leadership in adherence to Occidental’s mission. Tour Guides provide information about Oxy’s distinguished history and insight on their own unique experiences, as they host walking tours of the Oxy campus to elementary and middle school students.  

DUTIES:

  • Conduct walking tours
  • Data entry
  • Office support as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to be articulate, professional, and responsible
  • Strong public speaking abilities
  • Engage with elementary and middle school students
  • Maturity, respect for youth, and an ability to listen with patience
  • Interact effectively with a diversity of individuals

Tour guides must commit to work at least one semester and are encouraged to stay longer if possible. All Tour Guides are expected to honor the term of their commitment. Hired applicants must complete required paperwork and TB testing. New hires will be required to attend a mandatory training session (beginning of semester). Tour Guides will be evaluated on a regular basis by NPP staff.
