Consistent with the approach adopted this fall, all Occidental students who enroll full time in the Spring 2021 semester will receive a one-time $1,500 tuition credit for that semester.

As we announced Monday, Occidental will continue with remote learning when the Spring Semester begins in January. Due to the rising incidence of COVID-19, Los Angeles County health officials have not permitted Occidental and other area colleges and universities to resume in-person instruction. Consistent with the approach we adopted for fall, I write to share that all Occidental students who enroll full time in the 2021 Spring Semester will receive a one-time $1,500 tuition credit for that semester.

Our decision to offer this tuition credit reflects our continuing recognition of the extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in. We also hold fast to our unwavering commitment to meet the full demonstrated need of each student. The credit will appear on students' billing statement or account to help reduce the amount due for the Spring Semester. Students receiving need-based financial aid, depending on the nature of their package, may see the credit reflected as either a reduction in their expected family contribution or loan amount.

Regardless of the mode of instruction, Oxy students will benefit from the high quality, personalized approach, and integrity of our academic programs as well as the dedication of our distinguished faculty. Over the last several months, the Occidental faculty have consistently demonstrated the kind of flexibility and creativity that are hallmarks of our teaching, personalized advising and care of the whole student.

We know students are experiencing their undergraduate careers at a historic moment and want to provide some additional financial relief to families while maintaining the excellence on which Occidental's reputation rests.

Sincerely,
President Elam
