Playback Theater is a form of improvisational theater where an audience member tells a true story and then watches it enacted on the spot by a group of trained actors and musicians. It was developed by Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas in the 1970s and is now practiced internationally in schools, corporations, peace and conflict work, and more.
Join facilitator Joyce Lu, Ph.D. (Oxy Theater '92) to explore Playback Theater in a 3-hour introductory workshop hosted by the Department of Theater. Dr. Lu is a former member of the Living Arts Playback Theater Ensemble in the Bay Area, directed by Armand Volkas. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2007 to teach in the Department of Theatre & Dance at Pomona College, Dr. Lu has continued to teach and train in Playback and will be creating a company in Los Angeles in 2019. She also has training in Psychodrama and is a certified Feldenkrais Method Practitioner.
Space is limited and priority will be given to Theater majors and minors.
