Mr. McKinnon is the Founding Partner of Sandia Holdings, LLC.
Ian McKinnon (Class of 1989) is a venture capitalist, entrepreneur, and international investor in the life sciences, technology, and professional sports. He is the Founding Partner of Sandia Holdings, LLC (”Sandia”). Located in Greenwich, Connecticut, Sandia is the primary investment company for the McKinnon family. He spent nearly twenty years at Ziff Brothers Investment “ZBI” and retired as a Managing Partner. Prior to which, he was a consultant with Bain & Company and an investment banking analyst with Merrill.
McKinnon is also one of the founding partners of TEAM8, a sports management company which spearheaded the creation of the Laver Cup, the tennis equivalent to golf’s Ryder Cup. He is a principal owner of Venezia FC, currently competing in Italy’s Serie B.
McKinnon serves on many boards, including the Santa Fe Institute and the Albuquerque Academy. He also serves on several Advisory Boards, including the McKinnon Center for Global Affairs and the Barack Obama Scholars Program, both at Occidental College. Mr. McKinnon has also been a guest lecturer on investment topics at Columbia Business School, Dartmouth College’s Amos Tuck School of Business, and the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce and Darden School of Business.
As a Baker Scholar, Mr. McKinnon received an MBA from Harvard Business School, and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Occidental College with a BA in Public Policy. He was also a finalist for both the Rhodes and Marshall scholarships.
Mr. McKinnon and his wife live in Connecticut with their two children, two dogs and two guinea pigs.
