Room and roommate assignment from Residential Housing and Education Services.
Dear Incoming Students,
A big announcement from Residential Education and Housing Services (REHS):
Welcome to Occidental College! The Office of Residential Education and Housing Services (REHS) at Occidental College is excited about the 2022-2023 year, and we are committed to making it as enjoyable as possible.
The residence halls are more than just a place to eat and sleep; they are an integral part of your education. Living in the residence halls will expose you to values, beliefs, and lifestyles which may be different from your own. You will have the chance to grow and learn through many new experiences, such as cooperating with your roommate, planning an event with RAs for the hall and making new friends. Some of your most significant learning experiences at college will be in the residence hall community, and as you embark upon this new and exciting journey, we encourage you to take advantage of every moment.
Whew! Thanks for reading through that! Now, here is some important information that you have been waiting for. Let’s get started!
Housing Assignment Information
Room assignments are made based on your answers to the housing questionnaire you completed earlier this summer. Your housing assignment can be found below. Please understand that your roommate assignment may change throughout the summer before your arrival on campus based on individual student circumstances; we are unable to accept room change requests until our designated room change period during the 3rd week of the semester.
We encourage you to contact your roommate(s) to get to know one another and talk about who will bring for your new room.
Move-In Information
For any information involving move-in please review our New Student Guide. In the New Student Guide, you will find the move-in guide, as it details all of what to expect on move-in day, as well as a packing list and recommendations.
COVID-19 Information
Recently, information was shared with students about COVID-19 related information and requirements on the Back To Oxy website, managed by the Oxy COVID Operations Group. Any questions related to COVID-19 should be directed to oxy@oxy.edu, which is regularly monitored.
Shipping Your Belongings
Students who wish to ship belongings in trunks, suitcases or boxes to the College before they arrive for the fall semester should address them in care of themselves in the format below.
Student Name, Class of 2026
1600 Campus Rd
Box # ____ (Use Unit number if sending via UPS or FedEx) Los Angeles, CA 90041-3314
Your box number can be found by accessing your MyOxy (my.oxy.edu) account, then selecting "Update Addresses and Phones" under the Student Services tab.
Please visit the Postal Operations Website directly for any questions about mail, packages, and hours of operation on move in day
During Orientation, the mailroom will be open so you can begin to pick up mail; oversized packages will be available for pick up at the Facilities Stockroom after you check into your residence hall. More information about receiving mail is available in the New Student FAQ.
Beat The LA Heat
LA can be hot in August and September! Some of our first year residence halls do not provide central air conditioning in individual student rooms, however air conditioning is provided in the main lounge and common area spaces, so students can stay cool. We recommend students bring a fan with them to use in their individual rooms.
Please visit our Beat the SoCal Heat webpage with more information about resources students can utilize to stay cool in our warmer months.
