Daryl Barker is a veteran of the US Navy submarine service. He served for 6 years as a nuclear operator and part of the strategic nuclear deterrent fleet onboard the USS Tennessee. He is completing his Masters in Library and Information Studies at UCLA in Spring of 2022 and then will be continuing as a doctoral candidate in the Information Studies program. He graduated from Oxy with a degree in Politics and a minor in Art History in 2017. His work focuses on working with veterans and other non-traditional students in academic libraries, gender representation in media, and pedagogical interventions to improve information literacy. He has presented work at Critical Pedagogy Symposium and The Southern Political Science Association conferences and currently has one journal article and one book chapter under review
