We are dedicated to providing our gifted and diverse students with an understanding of politics, government, and public policy to prepare them to become well informed, curious, and engaged leaders in their communities, in their societies, and in our increasingly complex, interdependent, and pluralistic world.
The clearest and most obvious goal of the Politics major is to teach students how to think about and analyze political issues. This is a challenging task, because in this major, we have the whole world to cover. Many students seek to focus mainly on international relations, and they may choose to major in Diplomacy and World Affairs (DWA). Others wish to focus primarily on American politics, and they may choose to be Urban and Environmental Policy majors.
The Politics Department invites the Oxy community to a Politics 101 Weekly Film Series screening of "Inequality for All".
Roger Guenveur Smith will give a public address, "Performing History", inspired by his undergraduate studies at Occidental College in the American Studies Department.
