Description: The volunteer program offers opportunities in many departments including patient care units, cancer center, patient escort, skilled nursing facility, short stay surgery and emergency room. Assignments are made according to interests, qualifications, availability and need for a service. Time commitment requirements: Must serve a four-hour minimum shift per week. Students must volunteer fifty (50) hours of service per semester.

Description: Many volunteer opportunities such as front office, blood pressure readings, weighing patients, lab work, medical and social service, health care administration, and medical assisting. Asking for a volunteer commitment of one clinic shift (4-6 hours) per week for 6 months. Days and hours vary.

Los Angeles County + USC Women's & Children's Hospital

Description: Opportunities are available in the following areas.: Translators: bilingual volunteers are especially needed in the clinic areas to help give instructions to parents & patients, working closely with members of the hospital’s medical team; Child Life Program: assists staff with simple art and play projects to help keep the children distracted, especially in cases where painful medical procedures are necessary; CARES Child Care Center: age children whose mothers or siblings are being treated in the clinics or the hospital; and other volunteer opportunities. Requirements: Prospective volunteers must attend an orientation to the hospital, including a tour, prior to service; also, health screening for Rubella and tuberculosis are required prior to service. Benefits: letters of recommendation are provided to each volunteer upon completion of 100 hours of service; free parking or bus tokens are available for all volunteers; a complimentary meal in the Doctor’s Dining Room is provided to volunteers who serve a minimum of fours hours each day. Description: The volunteer service program at the City of Hope offers a variety of experience including working along side physicians, nurses and researchers. Must participate in an orientation and training program from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Orientation and training programs offered three times a year.

Description: Kaiser Permanente is seeking caring individuals to volunteer for their Hospice program, working with terminally ill patients and their families. The program honors the basic principle of Hospice care, that is to help terminally ill patients recapture the spirit of living and make the most of the remaining time of their lives with family and friends. The hospice philosophy is to treat the person instead of the disease, focus on the patient and the family and emphasize the quality of life instead of its duration. Hospice volunteers donate 4 hours a week to visiting patients or doing errands for them or their care-givers. Volunteers are assigned duties in communities close to their homes. Volunteers are given 20 hours of free training before being assigned. Those interested should call the Volunteer Coordinator for an application and additional information.
