The Task Force on Promoting Community and Safety is co-chaired by Dean of the College Wendy Sternberg and Associate Dean of Students Vivian Garay Santiago.

They have been charged by President Elam to identify and direct offices, individuals, and departments to address the needs of the campus community around seven areas of focus. Dean Sternberg and Associate Dean Santiago are the only established members of the task force.

The co-chairs meet regularly and consult with employees across campus, including those within the President’s Office, Faculty Council, Civil Rights & Title IX Office, BEST, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and Student Affairs.

Additional input comes to the task force through a variety of means, including listening sessions with student and other groups. Those conversations continue.

The task force also maintains an input form—which it reviews and discusses weekly—to gather perspectives from the extended College community. Notably, while the form is open to all members of the on- and off-campus community for general suggestions (including alumni, trustees, and families), input on curricular and co-curricular offerings and opportunities to participate in the work are limited to campus community members (faculty, students, and staff).

The task force website continues to be updated regularly, and the co-chairs will email the campus community with significant updates or time-sensitive information.
