Dear Occidental College Community,

On Nov. 30, President Elam announced the formation of the Task Force on Promoting Community and Safety to listen and respond to the evolving needs of our community in light of the current conflict in the Middle East. Among other things, the task force was established to address and prevent instances of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of potential harassment within the Occidental College community.

Over the past two weeks, the task force has made significant progress in identifying resources and organizing services in support of this charge. Those resources include the creation of a dedicated informational website.

The website outlines the seven areas of focus of the task force; compiles important messages to the community; offers resources for reporting safety issues or incidents of bias or harassment; and provides a channel for any member of the College community to confidentially share ideas, concerns, or recommendations directly with the task force.

This site will be updated continually with information about campus events, policy improvements, and educational opportunities that are being planned for the spring semester.

Thank you for engaging with us in this work and for your partnership in strengthening our community. We hope you have a restful winter break, and we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sternberg, Dean of the College
