Financial Aid
Renewing your FAFSA
We use the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal and state financial aid.
Deadline: March 2nd
Both you and your parent must have an individual Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to log-in, sign, and submit your FAFSA. Unsigned FAFSA applications will be considered incomplete and may delay the review process.
After logging in, verify or update your personal information (i.e. e-mail address, home address, etc.). Pay attention to the financial and tax questions and any other areas that may have changed since last year.
If you did not complete a FAFSA last year and you are interested in applying for financial aid for the upcoming year, complete a new 2013-2014 FAFSA and follow the remaining steps to complete your application.
Avoid Common Errors
- The application should be signed by the student and one parent whose information appears on the application.
- Double check that essential information is entered correctly (i.e. social security number, date of birth, name as it appears on a social security card).
- Answer all questions asked--most often errors appear when a question is skipped or left blank.
IRS Data Retrieval Tool
The FAFSA enables families to retrieve tax data directly from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to make completing the FAFSA more accurate. We encourage families to file their Federal Tax Returns early in order to take advantage of this process. When you begin your FAFSA you will be prompted to retrieve tax data. Make sure you follow the steps on the FAFSA to import tax data onto your application. You will only be able to use this tool after the IRS has processed your and your parent(s) tax returns.
Selected for Verification?
After your FAFSA has been processed you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) via e-mail. Review your SAR for accuracy and check if you were selected for verification. If you were selected for verification by the Department of Education, you will need to submit additional forms to complete your file with our office. We may request an IRS Tax Return Transcript for you (if you filed) and your parent(s), along with a Dependent or Independent Verification Worksheet.
