Eagle Rock & Highland Park
All this and Chicken Boy, too.
Oxy sits on the border between Eagle Rock and Highland Park, two communities that reflect the diverse and eclectic nature of Los Angeles. Restaurants, coffeehouses, boutiques, music stores, and art galleries are cheek-by-jowl with auto repair shops, panaderias, and a fleet of beloved taco trucks.
To the north of campus, Eagle Rock—named after the huge dome of sandstone that looms over the 134 Freeway—is home to the annual Eagle Rock Music Festival, L.A.’s largest independent music festival. Check out the glow-in-the-dark bowling at All Star Lanes, or the Filipino specialties at Jollibees in Eagle Rock Plaza.
To the south in Highland Park is CafĂ© de Leche, where President Veitch can be seen grabbing a morning coffee. Down York Boulevard is Galco’s, with its mind-blowing assortment of carbonated beverages. Presiding over it all is Chicken Boy, a classic L.A. landmark.
Oxy isn’t just located here; it’s a vital part of the community. Our students tutor students in math at Franklin High School. They introduce grade-schoolers to dance and music at Garvanza Elementary School. They feed the homeless at an Eagle Rock church. They give back.
