The Office of National Awards informs, recruits, counsels and prepares Occidental students and alumni in their pursuit of highly competitive, prestigious, national and international, academic opportunities.
Our office promotes the mission of the College by providing information and extensive guidance to all students and alumni as they pursue these fellowships and scholarships. These awards introduce students and alumni to a range of prestigious national or international opportunities including internships, fellowships, post-graduate study or research at highly esteemed institutions.
All personal statements must be solely the work of the candidates with no assistance in editing or advising from anyone once they begin write their statement. Each candidate is required to sign the statement below at the end of their statement.
“I attest that this personal statement is my own work and is wholly truthful. Neither it nor any earlier draft has been edited by anyone other than me, nor has anyone else reviewed it to provide me with suggestions to improve it. I understand that any such editing or review would disqualify my application.”
Each academic institution endorsing a Rhodes candidate must sign.
"I am knowledgeable regarding the institutional practices of [name of institution] in connection with applications for the Rhodes Scholarship. To the best of my knowledge and belief, [name of institution] has provided no editorial review of the applicant's [or applicant's name] personal statement."
