Jet Propulsion Laboratory Internship
In partnership with the Career Development Center, the Undergraduate Research Center coordinates a relationship with the JPL-SIRI program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.
This program will allowed talented sophomores, juniors and seniors to work on scientific research projects with JPL science mentors on-site at nearby JPL. The JPL-SIRI program is an internship program during the academic year and the upcoming program dates are: January 27th through May 29, 2014.
This is an outstanding opportunity for Occidental students to gain professional experience and, although unpaid, the SIRI program offers student interns a gateway for JPL's prestigious, paid summer programs and continued research.
The JPL-SIRI program "gives students real-life work experiences as a component of their academic program, ones that can help them make career choices and, if they decide to go into some kind of technical work, help them chart future steps in their education." You can learn more about this program at http://siri.jpl.nasa.gov/ but you should not apply on the JPL/SIRI website, because Oxy will submit our student applications directly to JPL.
If you are interested in being considered for one of these internships, 1) Review the announcements of opportunities or AOs (click here) which are outlines project descriptions. Stduents can select up to two announcements to apply. 2) Format resume according to guidelines (click here) 3) Submit completed resume(s) to: Liselda J. Fabian in the CDC office by 5 pm by Wednesday, November 13th.
If you are selected by Oxy for the program, you will need to confirm the two opportunities that interest you, meet with the Career Development Center staff to polish your resume and submit your application. If you are selected by JPL, you will register for a two unit internship course at Oxy and participate in the internship program (including weekly training session) through the CDC.
If you have questions about this program, please contact Liselda J. Fabian or speak with your advisor or other faculty in your major.
