Students are responsible for knowing the following:

The Human Subjects Research Review Committee reviews all research involving human subjects conducted at Occidental College by members of the Occidental College community, including students, faculty, and staff. The Committee serves as Occidental's Institutional Review Board for purposes of compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations: Title 45, Part 46 - Protection of Human Subjects.

Any independent study project, honors project or any research involving human subjects must be approved by the Human Subjects Research Review Committee before beginning data collection. Examples of human subjects research may include: experiments, interviews, surveys or questionnaires either on paper or electronic, observational studies, filming, and the collection and use of archival data.

If you are unsure if your project should be reviewed, please contact Susan Molik, Institutional Review Board Coordinator, at hsrrc@oxy.edu. For details, please see /institutional-review-boards/human-subjects.
