Letter from the Dean of Students

Welcome to Occidental!  My Student Affairs colleagues and I are delighted to have you join the Oxy family.

As a member of the Oxy family, you have both rights and the responsibilities that come with being a part of this family.  We expect all of our students to be productive members of this community and to represent Oxy well when away from campus.  Together we must commit to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy community for everyone.

In the Oxy Student Handbook, you will find the most important policies to you as a student.  Please read them carefully.  You are responsible for knowing these policies so that you are clear on what we expect of all students regarding academics, housing, alcohol, sexual respect, technology usage, and every facet of campus life.  Revisions to policies may periodically occur during the year. If that happens, you’ll be notified about significant changes.

If you have questions about any portion of the Handbook, please contact me and I’ll be happy to meet with you.

The staff and faculty at Occidental are here to support and encourage you, and to challenge you to grow and to help you achieve in all areas of life.  I hope you’ll partner with me to have an outstanding year!

Wishing you well,

Rob Flot

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
